Sequel to True Confidence 001 where I realized that the price Jesus paid ensures that God never relates with me based on my sin-status but based on my righteousness-status. I now know that my justification cannot be earned because it has been fully paid for in advance!
So the question arises, even though I am born again and active in God's vineyard but find myself still committing sin, how do I get around this?
I have realized that what I need to do when I err(sin) is to ask God for forgiveness, cease from punishing myself for that error whilst ensuring the devil does not ensnare me with this same thought to punish myself and then draw closer to God requesting for grace to overcome that sin.
"By entering through faith into what God has always wanted to do for us--set us right with him, make us fit for him--we have it all together with God because of our Master Jesus." (Romans 5:1 - MSG)
"Through Him also we have [our] access (entrance, introduction) by faith into this grace (state of God's favor) in which we [firmly and safely] stand..." (Romans 5:2a - Amplified Bible)
The above scripture verses correlate with the above injunction that the price Jesus paid on Calvary grants us access to grace/unmerited favor which is at the helm of Joyce Meyer's quote in my earlier post True Confidence 001.
I have confidence because God has said "I will never leave you nor forsake you so I can BOLDLY say 'The Lord is my helper, what can man do to me?'" (Hebrews 13:5-6 paraphrased). Hence as long as God is always with me, I am confident enough to face whatever comes my way irrespective of 'sin status'.
CAVEAT: This is not a recommendation to keep sinning though but a call for spiritual understanding and maturity. As we request God for more grace to cease from our sins, he emboldens/empowers us to leave behind all such attitudes because we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, we carry the seed of God on our inside and CANNOT sin hence our current status is not our position in God.
As we keep confessing the above statement even in the face of recurring sins with an understanding that "It is Finished" (this is what Justification by Faith truly means), it is only a matter of time before we say good riddance to the sin (bad rubbish).
Till we meet next time, keep the faith...
