Men In Black (MIB)

Have you seen this movie? Although I have not bought over the alien concept that it depicts, this post is not about proving or disproving the existence of aliens but about certain lessons I gleaned from this movie's story line. I watched MIB 3 recently and noticed two salient truths with spiritual allegories:

a) I noticed the way aliens from other planets lived on planet Earth, they only maintained an earthly form but their hearts were always fixated on their home planets.

They are not of the world (worldly, belonging to the world), [just] as I am not of the world.
(John 17 vs 16, Amplified Bible)

As Christians on earth, how many times do we remind ourselves that we do not belong here? If we do this more often, we will not struggle for so many things we are currently struggling to attain, deceiving ourselves that this life is a do-or-die affair.

b) They exercised their "alien powers" when necessary, always realising that they were different from other normal humans and so had a capacity to do things differently.

Little children, you are of God [you belong to Him] and have [already] defeated and overcome them [the agents of the antichrist], because He Who lives in you is greater (mightier) than he who is in the world. ( 1 John 4 vs 4, Amplified Bible)

As long as it is certain that you belong to God, the heavenly deposited power of the Holy Spirit should have outward manifestations in your life. Situations should not rule over us; we should be ready to back the crowd in order to lead the orchestra.
Check yourself today, can you point at physical evidences of the Spirit inward workings in your life? If not, you need to make necessary adjustments as soon as possible.

I will love to know your thoughts about my musings, kindly drop your comments so I can make necessary adjustments. Thank you!

The Race of Life

I was jogging one day and I noticed a person in front of me, about a quarter of a mile ahead, I could tell he was running a little slower than me so I thought to myself: "Good, I shall try to catch him". I had about a mile to go on my planned path before I needed to turn off so I started running faster and faster so that with every block, I was gaining on him just a little bit.

After just a few minutes, I was only about 100 yards behind him so I really picked up the pace and pushed myself. You would have thought I was running in the last leg of London Olympic competition as I was determined to catch him.

Finally, I did it! I caught up with him and passed him by.

On the inside, I felt so good since 'I beat him' and of course he did not even know we were racing. After I passed him, I realised I had been so focused on competing against him that I had missed my turn. I had gone nearly six blocks past it and had to turn around to go all back.

Isn't that what happens in life when we focus on competing with co-workers, neighbours, friends, family trying to out-do them or trying to prove that we are more successful or more important? We spend our time and energy running after them and we miss out on our own paths to our God-given destinies.

The problem with unhealthy competition is that it is a never ending cycle! There will always be somebody ahead of you - someone with a better job, nicer car, more money in the bank, more education, a prettier wife, a more handsome husband, better behaved children, e.t.c.

You must realise that: "I can be the best that I can be, I am not competing with anyone". Some people are insecure today because they pay too much attention to what others are doing, where others are going, what others are wearing or driving, e.t.c.

Please Ponder Over This!

Let us learn to take what God has given us, the height, weight and personality... dress well and wear it proudly so we do not miss the block simply because our gaze changed.

True?

Have you ever sang this song before?

"God is good,
He has done me well,
Oh my soul,
Rise up and praise the Lord!"

Or any song that hinges on the goodness or faithfulness of God? I am sure you have.

While in church earlier today, it dawned on me that these songs were much easier to relate with when you just got a promotion at work or bought a new car/house or just sealed a six-digit dollar deal or you just got your long awaited heart's desire; as compared to when you just lost a close friend, spouse, kid or family relative or when something you had longed or hoped for did not come through or you just got sacked at work?

Sincerely, take some time to reflect before you conclude... do you find this true?

I came to one conclusion: these songs hinge on God's attributes and only remind us about same. They were never about the state of our heart or life at its different points. This is simply because, the state of our lives change often but GOD does not change and we do not expect to change our song because the state of our life has changed. It brought me to one salient truth, 'whether in a good heart disposition or otherwise, God does not change and our song to Him should not either'.

Its a difficult one, I must admit but it is possible. Remember, "For with God, all things are possible".
